Is 12mm better than 8mm?

The "Liquidators" and "Depots" may have you convinced that 12mm flooring is the best choice for your project; however this is often times not true.  When comparing the thicknesses of flooring, it is easy to see that many 12mm thick floors are not compressed to the same density as the 8mm which leaves Cheap 12mm Laminate's prone to water damage.  A good 8mm floor, Lacerta Collection, will be tightly compressed which protects it from taking in water, and increases the durability of your floor.  A high price tag does not always mean better quality, especially in the flooring industry. 

What about the attached padding & sound quality?

Unfortunately, many sales representatives will try to convince you that 12mm flooring with pre-attached pad is the way to go to avoid the hollow echo of a thinner floor.  Attached pad is the lowest quality padding on the market. With no solid barrier against moisture in place, thinner material often times 1mm thick and gaps along the edge of every plank attached pad may be easy today, but will create buyers remorse tomorrow.  Instead of upgrading to the water damage prone 12mm laminate with the risky attached padding, upgrade your underlayment.  Once you put our 3mm thick underlayment down you will not be able to tell the difference between a 12mm thick floor, a solid hardwood floor, and your 8mm Lacerta Collection laminate floor.  In addition, you will have the added benefit of a heavy duty moisture barrier built into the premium underlayment.  Your home will look like amazing, the floor will be protected from moisture, your neighbors will think you just spent a fortune on new hardwoods and you will have saved a fortune.
